Drawn to the ancient depth of encaustic and the ethereal fluidity of alcohol inks, Umbreen Hasan's practice embraces the meeting point of nature, emotion and healing. Her work explores the quiet luminosity of layered wax and the water - like bloom of inks, creating meditative surfaces where color breathes and stillness becomes visible.
Trained as both a physician and an artist, Umbreen brings a profound understanding of inner landscapes to her studio practice - merging scientific clarity with intuitive sensitivity.
Rooted in a philosophy that art can restore the spirit and soften the mind, Umbreen approaches painting as a gesture of presence and each mark a response to the unseen currents of life. Her interest in the emotional ecology of the human experience has led her to champion art as a tool for well being and emotional grounding. This vision extends beyond her studio to her teachings, where she leads therapeutic art workshops designed to cultivate calm, creativity and connection.
In Umbreen's work, the natural world is not simply observed- it is felt. Water, breath and bloom are recurring energies, echoing the cycles of renewal and release. Through wax, pigment and flame, she dissolves the boundaries between abstraction and memory, allowing landscapes to emerge like distinct recollections - fluid, atmospheric and alive.
Umbreen Has been recognized for her contributions to art and community healing, and her practice reflects a commitment to both, aesthetic depth and emotional resonance. As an artist and an educator, she believes in the restorative power of creativity - a place where silence forms meaning, color becomes language and the act pf making becomes a refuge .
Statement
Rooted in a dialogue between nature, emotion and stillness, my work explores the quiet poetry of abstraction through luminous layers of alcohol ink and encaustics. Guided by fluid movement and tactile depth, I create atmospheres where color breathes, softens, and unfolds. Each piece emerges slowly - breath by breath, layer by layer - revealing subtle shifts in tone and energy. My practice is meditative and intuitive, shaped by the elemental qualities of water, air and light, and a reverence for organic transformation.
As a physician and artist, I approach creation as both sanctuary and science - a space where presence meets curiosity , and where making becomes a gentle act of grounding. Through my studio practice and therapeutic workshops, I invite others into stillness, self connection and creative freedom. My belief in art as a form of emotional restoration informs every step of my work, offering a place to pause, exhale, and let beauty become a quiet healing force.
